The Team & The Coaches Stink !

Eric Mangini, please meet Rich Kotite. Yes, you now have the Jets off to their worst start since 1996 when we started 0-8. Pathetically, the Jets are 1-7 and are currently on a 5 game skid. We are truly a pathetic team.

Yesterday was truly a snooze fest. The Bills started the game with a long 10 minute and 7 second drive that resulted in 3 points. We then had a long drive of our own, about 7 minutes, resulting in 3 points which took 15 plays to achieve. That was the only time the Jets put points on the board against a weak Bills defense. So, that pretty much says that our offense SUCKS and doesn't work with Chad Pennington at the helm. Yes, I truly felt bad for the booing of Chad and the offense yesterday as it's hard to boo your quarterback that has taken us to the play-offs a few times over the last 5 years but the arm is as weak as a wet noodle.

All game, we are waiting for Mangini to change QBs to see if that can spark the offense. It wasn't until 3:32 left in the game that he finally made the change. What the hell is the coach waiting for? Why has it taken so many weeks to put the kid in? Why did he wait until the game was pretty much over before making the change? It was basically garbage time. You can't put the kid in with such little time left in the game as it showed by Kellen forcing some throws that he shouldn't have made but at that stage of the game, he was just trying to get something done that the team couldn't do for the first 56 and a half minutes. However, I did like what I saw - hard throws down the field. There was one throw before the interception that went down field for around 20+ yards and Kellen just flicked the wrist and didn't put his arm or legs into the throw and the ball just sailed to the receiver. That was great to see and I hope to see a lot more of that over the next 8 weeks as he learns to play the position.

Chad just can't move the offense anymore. He didn't throw any interceptions but throw for a season low 106 yards against a Bills defense ranked 31st in the league. That's NOT acceptable. Pennington was 13 for 20 meaning his average throw was 7.85 yards per reception. Again, that is NOT good. The Offense just doesn't move. We had to try a trick play with Brad Smith taking the snap only to hand off to Leon Washington who fumbled to try and fool the opposition. This offense isn't fooling anyone.

The defense played better giving up only 13 points at home but they just don't play well in the 4th quarter. This season, we've been outscored 83-35 in the fourth. I thought Revis had a good game getting his first interception but I didn't like the way they used him. There was a Bills drive that they sent Revis on the same blitz for 3 consecutive plays leaving the receiver he was covering open. And the 85 yard play he was torched on was tough to swallow. He had the ball in his hands and Abram Elam somehow hit Revis allowing the ball to go from Revis' hands to the receiver who sprinted the rest of the way for the touchdown that sealed the game. That was a fluke play. David Harris played well starting for Vilma and recorded his first sack of his career and also recording a team-high 17 tackles.

Mangini is impossible to listen to in the post game conference. He just says that it was a tough loss. The guys practiced hard all week and just didn't get it done. Hey Eric...NO SHIT ! Maybe change your schemes, get some balls, and change personnel. I hated when we had the ball past mid-field with 6 minutes to go and we punted. It was 4th and 3. Get some balls and go for it. Also what drives me bananas is the offense. Why can't they have Pennington snap the ball before 1 second left on the play clock? They get to the line sometimes with 16 seconds and don't snap it until 1 second. This causes too much confusion for our offense and not really any confusion for the defense. Snap the freggin ball with 6 seconds instead of just getting it off before a delay of game penalty.

And how is it that Laveraneus Coles didn't catch a ball until the 4th quarter before getting hurt. Why? Because we have a QB that can't reach him anymore. I'm reading this morning all these writers bashing Kellen Clemens for not looking good. Not many QBs are gonna look good when standing on the sidelines for 2.5 hours only to come in rusty for the final 3 minutes. It's unfair to judge this kid on 3 minutes of a game that was pretty much over.

So, the season is over. We are 1-8 with 8 games to go. We are NOT winning the rest of the games with the Steelers, Cowboys, and Patriots still to come. Get some balls Mangini and make the QB switch for the final 8 games so we can see if we have a QB on our hands. If we don't, then at least we know that our Top 5 pick will have to be used for a QB instead of a pass rushing stud.

Chad To Start...But Why?

1. Mangini / Tannenbaum inheirited Chad Pennington and drafted Kellen Clemens last year who Ron Jaworski said was the best QB in the draft.

2. From the Clemens draft class, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler and Tarvaris Jackson all are starters.

3. From last year's draft class, Trent Edwards is starting and it's a matter of time before JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, and John Beck are starting.

4. Chad Pennington is 1-4 while Kellen Clemens is 0-1; however, the Clemens loss against Baltimore showed the kind of arm he has to open up the offense.

5. Pennington has thrown 6 interceptions in the last 9 quarters.

6. Remember back in 2004, Tom Coughlin changed from Kurt Warner to Eli Manning and the team was 5-4. Manning lost his first 6 starts destroying the Giants season. The Jets season is already destroyed which is another reason to make the change.

7. The Jets' play-action no longer works because defenses do not fear Chad throwing the ball downfield.

8. (Taken from Winston Biggs on Ganggreen.com): Take a look at a football field. If you have 11 guys defending 6 to 15 yards down the field you have a fairly small space to cover. At 15 yards the WR are in a space of 7,200 square feet, at 30 yards the space is 14,400 square feet. The reason WR look so much more wide open when you have a down field passing game is the amount of space that's available goes up by 160 feet for every additional foot a QB can stretch the field. That's if everything else is equal which of course it isn't. Chad is restricted in going to the sidelines as well because of his arm which pulls the amount of space down that the WR and defense are working in.

1-6...We Suck !

Finally, maybe Mangini is getting it. We are 1-6 now after another terrible loss 38-31, this time to the pathetic Bengals. After the game, he didn't declare Chad as the starting quarterback. He didn't say he wasn't the starting QB either. He said he's going to have to watch the tape. Hey...at least this is finally a sign that change could be on the way because with 9 games to go and the season already over, a change needs to be made. This is our 4th straight loss and our only win so far has been against the even more pathetic winless Dolphins. So far this season, we have been outscored in the 4th quarter 73-35. If you can do the math, those are NOT good numbers.

I'm not going to even blame Chad for yesterday's loss. He had a decent game until the way end. He went 20 for 31 for 272 yards and 3 TDs. However, a BAD interception was returned 42 yards for a touchdown. Part of the problem was that they didn't have any time-outs and needed to throw passes to the sidelines to get out of bounds. With not having a strong arm and knowing we were using the sideline, the defender jumped right in front of the floating ball and took it the other way for 6. But, until that moment, Chad was playing for his life and he was doing a good job. How can you complain starting the game with a 57 yard bomb to Coles (45 of the 57 yards the ball traveled in the air). I loved Chad's emotion after that throw to try and silence his critics. He led the offense nicely as we had scored points on our first 5 possessions of the game. It was nice to start the half with another touchdown to go up 23-10 but things soon turned sour. We got a gift TD at the end of the game on a hail mary pass from Pennngton to Cotchery to help the stats. However, you can't argue Laverneaus' numbers. He had 8 catches for 133 yards.

Our running game is really hurting. The offensive line did a decent job protecting Chad but we are not creating any holes for the running game. Jones had only 67 yards on the ground and I really don't remember if Leon Washington had any carries. We got killed in the 2nd half when Nick Mangold screwed up a shotgun and snapped the ball before Pennington was ready causing a fumble. That was the first fumble loss for the Jets this season.

The 2nd half was ugly, especially the final 19 minutes as we allowed 28 unanswered points as the Bengals starting picking apart our defense and really picked on rookie Darrelle Revis who had two pass-interference penalitites against him. We also had a dumb personal foul by Abram Elam punching a player on the ground. And do the Jets know how to tackle? Ever week, we turn a no-name backup running back into a superstar. This week it was Kenny Watson who ran for a career high 130 yards and 3 touchdowns. Have you ever heard of Kenny Watson? EXACTLY ! And our pass coverage sucked as well. Mangini benched Eric Smith and Andre Dyson which they deserved but no one else really stepped up their game. David Barrett was even demoted to playing only in the nickel formation. Despite Revis' troubles, he's learning the game and I think he's improving. He made a nice play that looked like an interception but it was called a simultaneous catch by both players. Jonathan Vilma had a lot of bench time in the second half which was a head scratcher as he's one of our best defensive players despite the formation that Mangini is using.

Ben Graham killed us when he shanked a punt that sailed a massive 20 yards in the air. Victor Hobson, who played the entire game, was credited with ZERO tackles. How can a linebacker who plays an ENTIRE game not have a single tackle? That's beyond pathetic.

Sean Ryan, starting for injured Chris Baker had 2 nice catches but then dropped a ball later in the game that hurt. Is Justin McCarins on the team? Why did we not trade him at the trading deadline last week?

So, the season is shot. We have as many losses already as we did all of last year. The offense doesn't work. The defense doesn't work. Nothing seems to be working. When that happens, there needs to be a change. I don't blame Chad at all for yesterday's loss but we need some sort of spark. And that spark MUST be Kellen Clemens !

Did Jones Have A Good Game?

I keep on reading how great of a game that Thomas Jones had. When you look at his total numbers, it surely looks like he had a good game. But, when you break it down, it doesn't look as great:

1st Quarter = 82 yards
2nd Quarter = 14 yards
3rd Quarter = 13 yards
4th Quarter = 21 yards
Total Game = 130 yards
Carries = 24
Average = 5.42 yards per carry

Now, if you take away the 36 yard run which was basically all mistackles, then:
1st Quarter = 46 yards
Total Carries becomes 23
Total Yards = 94
Average = 4.09 yards per carry which is OK

But break it down AFTER the 1st quarter. He had a pathetic 34 yards rushing in the 2ne half and in the last 3 quarters, he ran for 48 yards.

So, overally, it looks like he had a BIG game but when you look at the numbers, it's really not that impressive.

DOE !

WHAT THE HELL IS OUR COACH'S PROBLEM? WHY CAN'T HE MAKE A CHANGE? WE ARE 1-5 AND THE OFFENSE JUST DOESN'T WORK. WE ARE NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR SO WHY NOT SEE FOR 10 GAMES WHAT CLEMENS CAN DO. THIS IS THE PERFECT SEASON TO SEE IF WE HAVE A STAR QB ON THE BENCH BECAUSE IF WE DON'T, THEN WE'LL NEED TO DRAFT ONE WITH OUR #1 PICK NEXT YEAR. THIS A-HOLE, WHOM THE MEDIA CALLED "MANGENIUS" LAST YEAR IS FAR FROM A GENIUS AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. IF HE WAS A GENIUS, WHY CAN'T HE SEE THE OBVIOUS: THE QB CAN'T THROW, THE OFFENSE DOESN'T MOVE AND THE 3-4 DEFENSE DOESN'T WORK. IF HE WAS SUCH A GENIUS, HE'D REALIZE SUCH AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM THIS TEAM HAS !

A Time To Change

It's time for our ball boy (Mangini) to get some balls already. We are 1-5 after another snooze fest and an offense that couldn't fool a blind man. Our running game was OK but if you take away Thomas' Jones long run, his avearge per carry was nothing to get excited about. I really don't know what else to say. Only one team in NFL history has made the playoffs after a 1-5 start so the season is OVER. It's time to stop picking your ass on the sideline, Mr. Mangini, and make Kellen Clemens your starter for the last 10 games to see if he is the QB of the future. If not, we'll have to use our HIGH draft pick next year to draft another QB.

Watching the game was hard. Not just because we suck but because of the blue and gold uniforms. I felt like the Eagles were playing MIchigan. It was so annoying to watch and I hope they NEVER wear those colors again. I found myself saying "GO BLUE" during the game because "GO GREEN" would be like I was cheering for the Eagles. What a joke !

Our defense had a little pressure getting to McNab three times but can't stop the run or pass when it matters. Oh, and Andre Dyson is responsible for the 75 yard play we gave up for a TD. It's time to cut this guy as he's useless.

But, the big story is the lack of offense. And scarily, we had our chances when we were on the 4 yard line and couldn't run for the first down after a few tries so we tried a horrific pass which had the same pathetic results. Mangini has said that the QB sneak had been effective but you can't run that play EVER freggin time you are 4th and 1.

Now that the playoffs are out of reach, it's time to make the QB chance. And if he doesn't, he's a weak coach that should NOT be in charge of this team !

The End Is Near ?

It's looking like Chad will be our starter again this week vs. the Eagles. If he loses and had a 3 interception game again, that really should be the final time he starts this season as we need to see what Clemens has in his arsenal !

A Giant Killing

What I saw Sunday vs. the Giants was embarrassing on all sides of the ball. This team comes into the game 1-3 with a MUST win vs. their cross town rivals. What I have concluded is this: We are NOT a good team.

Chad Pennington threw the ball a little further than 4 yards but he's done. The next time he is behind center should be if Kellen Clemens gets hurt or if there is a blow out. Chad should now be our #2 QB as he doesn't have nearly enough arm strength to be the #1 guy anymore. It's sad as I like Chad but 3 more weak interceptions and balls floating to receivers. He probably should have been picked off 5 times. It's really time for the Clemens era to begin.

Chad's lack of arm strength is hurting the entire offense. The opposition knows we can't throw deep so the field shrinks, thus, hurting our running game. It would be nice if our OL can make some holes for the running game but when the entire defense knows we are going to run or either throw a short pass, there is not much room to move. I did like the way that the OL protected Chad (allowing only 1 sack all day) as he was not running for his life so that was one of the few positives. And Chad's numbers could have been worse if it weren't for 2 brilliant catches by Coles. Thomas Jones had a big game rushing for a big 36 yards for the day. But, there is literally no where for this guy to run.

As for defense, it wasn't good either. I've said the 3-4 isn't working and the proof is in the numbers. We can't stop the run. There is too much room off the line and before we touch the guy with the ball, they are already 5 yards up field. It's a joke when our ex-7th round draft pick looks like one of the top running backs in the game yesterday for the Giants. I think the Giants ran for 156 yards for us and they probably should have run for more but decided to throw the ball once and a while which we can't stop either since we have ZERO pass rush. We got our 3rd sack of the season through 5 games. So, at this rate, we'll be lucky to have 10 sacks all season. That's pretty pathetic when you ask me considering Osi (not even attempting to spell his last name) had 6 sacks for the Giants last week alone.

And penalties killed us as well as mistackles. On one drive, Dyson had a terrible penalty and then mistackled Plaxico who went for a touch down.

It was nice to see Eli Manning have a great 1st half throwing for 22 yards, an interception to Kerry Rhodes, giving him a QB rating of 0.0 but we didn't do much against him in the 2nd half.

Our play calling was not great but I did love the direct snap to Leon Washington to get a first down. But, when you take away the Rhodes TD on defense and the 98 yard Leon Washington KO return, and then the Vilma interception which set up a field goal, there really wasn't much offense. It also hurt that Nugent missed another field goal. But, despite the lack of offense, we still had a 10 point half-time lead.

Yup...we are 1-4 and Mangini continues to say that Pennington is his starter. What is our coach's problem? They drafted a QB last year who has a nice arm who Ron Jorwarski (can't spell) says was the best QB in that draft and we won't put the guy in. We were 1-4 in 2002 and made the playoffs but that won't be happening again. Since 1990, only 5 teams of 85 teams have recovered from 1-4 to make the playoffs and this Jets team will NOT be the 6th team to do so. Let's use the rest of the season to see what Kellen Clemens can do so next year, we'll have a solid QB to help us take that next step as we have taken a HUGE step backwards this year.

So, Mr. Mangini, right now, you are doing an AWFUL job as coach. Change the defense scheme to a 4-3 that fits the personnel. You already blew the Kendall situation which would have greatly helped our dreadful running game. And, enough with Pennington. Who gives a crap about a QB controversy. Put in the kid to see what he got. I give you an 'F' this year for FAILURE ! It's time to build our offense for next year and that change starts with the quarterback.

Bills Stampede Jets !

Another season down the crapper. Seems like every year, we have a MUST WIN game vs. the crappy Bills and each year, we suffer a devastating loss to that time. I'm beyond disgusted in the way we played.

We were facing the WORST defense in the league and at the half, we were tied at 0-0 after Nugent missed a field goal off the uprights.

The defense, against a rookie unproven QB didn't do much. They completed pass after pass. Hell...this Edwards kid completed 22 of 28 passes for 234 yards. It almost looked like we were playing against a Pro Bowl quarterback. Can we get some pass rush please? Can we not give teams so much cushion on the run. Can we stop the short pass?

I'm starting to think that our GM, a lawyer, and our head coach, an ex-ball boy, don't have a clue what they are doing. Like why in the first half, did we punt on 4th and 1 from the Buffalo 45 when we are facing the worst defensive team in the leauge? Mangini...get some balls ! And if you have NO confidence in your offense, them put in the QB that has an arm.

I'm fed up with our offense. Chad Pennington can NOT throw the ball. His numbers were looking nice but ever pass was 5 yards. And, how many wasted time outs did we have? Why do we always snap the ball at 1 second or right at 0 seconds? We could have used some of those time outs at the end of the game. And, Chad's balls are so weak. His longest throw sailed only 22 yards in the air. I'm officially done. To win in this league, you need to throw the ball downfield which we do not do. Bring in Kellen as the season is already shot to shit. Pennington's numbers weren't terrible. He completed a career high 32 passes but for only 290 yards. At one point, he had 15 straight completions but when passes are around 5 yards, it didn't impress me one bit. It should have been 16 straight as that pass went to the wrong team. His interceptions were bad with the first setting up a Bills score and the second ending a potential tying FG.

And where the hell was our running game. We were playing against a defense that can't stop the run and has allowed 12 straight 100 yard rushing days (averaging 165 yards of rushing per game) but they hold us to only 60 yards? Our prize acquisition of the off-season, Thomas Jones, had a massive 35 yards rushing the entire day. Yup on 12 carries, he averaged a bit 2.92 yards per carry. That's a freggin joke !

Penalities killed us all day. We had 9 yesterday and over the first three games of the year, we also had 9 so that was a mental meltdown.

One thing I did like was the fake spike play but then Nugent missed a 37 yard Field Goal.

1. The Jets allowed 304 total yards to a team that had managed a total of 600 in its first three games.
2. The Bills scored only 24 points in their first three games, the league's second-lowest total since 1970.
3. Nugent's streak of 23 straight inside the 50 ended at the half..
4. Pennington extended his touchdown-pass streak to nine straight games, the longest active streak in the NFL.
