Jets Draft 4 Players

The New York Jets were involved in the first trade of the 2007 NFL Draft. The Gang Green traded their #25 overall selection, #59 selection (2nd round) and #164 selection (5th round) for Carolina's #14 overall and #191 overall (6th round). With the acquired from the Panthers #14 overall the Jets selected CB Darrelle Revis from the University of Pittsburgh. Revis, 6'0", 197 lbs can also play at free safety and return punts.

Revis played in all 12 games with 11 starts as a true freshman in 2004 recording 49 total tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and one forced fumble to earn freshman All-American accolades. In 2005, he became a first team All-Big East performer after starting all 11 games and posting 41 total tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick. Revis once again started all 12 contests in 2006 and registered 39 total tackles including four for loss, two inceptions (both returned for touchdowns), and four pass breakups garnering his second straight All-Big East first team selection. Over the course of the past three seasons, Revis has also returned 54 punts for 555 yards (10.3 average) and two touchdowns (79 and 73 yards).

The New York Jets exchanged draft picks again, as they traded their #63 overall (2nd round), #89 overall (3rd round) and #191 overall (6th rounf) for Green Bay's #47 overall (2nd round) and #235 overall (7th round). Then, with their #47 overall pick, the Gang Green selected LB David Harris from Michigan.

According to ESPN's Draft Guide, David Harris, 6'2", 239 lbs, is the third best inside linebacker in the draft. He has good instincts and great motor. He, however, lacks in pass coverage skills and speed (ran 40 yards in 4.59 seconds at the Scouting Combine).

In 33 games at Michigan, Harris started 25 times. He closed out his career with 196 tackles (136 solos), 4.0 sacks for minus-29 yards and 20 stops for losses of 68 yards. He caused 3 fumbles and recovered another. He gained 8 yards on an interception return and also deflected 4 passes.

Overall, this is a solid pick, as the Jets chose a quality player and someone who can play inside in their 3-4 defense.

In the 6th round, the Gang Green selected OT Jacob Bender from Nicholls State. Bender, 6'6", 316 lbs is a solid prospect who did not allow a single sack in his senior season and produced eight touchdown-resulting blocks.

Later, in the 7th round, the Jets chose WR Chansi Stuckey from Clemson. Stuckey is 5'10", 185 lbs, very fast (40 yards in 4.34 seconds) and can also return punts. In 38 games at Clemson, including 31 as a receiver, Stuckey started 30 times. He ranks sixth in school history with 141 receptions and eighth with 1,760 yards (12.5 avg.), including seven touchdowns. He added 261 yards and two scores on 48 carries (5.4 avg.) and completed 11 of 25 passes (44.0 percent) for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He gained 229 yards on 31 punt returns (7.4 avg.), including a score and picked up 39 yards on two kickoff returns. He also accounted for 2,289 all-purpose yards on 222 touches, an average of 60.24 yards per game. ESPN Draft Guide projected Stuckey to be drafted in the 3rd round.

New Jets Training Facility

Hunter Roberts Construction Group is currently providing preconstruction services for the new facility which will be located on a former Exxon research site that is being redeveloped by a partnership of Gale and the Rockefeller Group. The 26-acre site will house a two-story campus building containing both training facilities for the players and the corporate headquarters for the entire Jets organization. Attached to the campus building is a clearspan fieldhouse, housing a full artificial turf practice field with adequate headroom for practice for the team’s "special teams". Adjacent to the campus building are three natural turf fields and an additional artificial turf field, as well as parking, stormwater retention, and an equipment shed for the field maintenance equipment. During the next phase of the project, Hunter Roberts Construction Group will be providing construction management services.

The NFL announced that the New York Jets will travel to Dallas on the Thanksgiving Day to take on the Cowboys in the annual Thanksgiving Classics.

Richie Anderson Arrested

TEMPE, Ariz. (March 12, 2007) -- The Arizona Cardinals fired wide receivers coach Richie Anderson four days after his arrest in a police prostitution sting operation.

Anderson, a fullback in the NFL for 13 seasons, was hired by new Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt in January.

Anderson, 35, was arrested March 8 on an accusation of soliciting an undercover Phoenix police officer posing as a prostitute.

"I wanted a chance to review the details of the situation before making any decision," Whisenhunt said in a statement released by the team. "While it's disappointing, I've decided that this is clearly in the best interests of our team in this particular instance. Our focus is now on finding a replacement and I am confident we will be able to do that relatively soon."

Anderson played for the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys before retiring after the 2005 season. He was a 2000 Pro Bowl selection while with the Jets and holds the team record for receptions by a running back at 305.

He was assistant wide receivers and tight ends coach for the Jets last season.

Jets Trade For Tom Jones !

Filling their need for a No. 1 ball carrier, the Jets, according to league sources, have agreed to a trade with the NFC champion Chicago Bears that will land them Thomas Jones and the 63rd overall pick in the upcoming draft in exchange for the 37th overall pick. New York acquired that in a draft-day deal with Washington last year. The deal is expected to be approved by the league on Tuesday.

The Jets still own two picks in the second round, their own (No. 59) and now the Bears' original selection.

Old Titans Uniforms Next Year ?

The Jets are believed to be considering wearing the uniforms of the 1960-62 New York Titans for one of their home games in the regular season. The opponent likely will be another original American Football League team, the Patriots, Bills or Chiefs.

Jets Get 2 NFL All-Rookies

Both New York Jets’ left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson and center Nick Mangold were named to the NFL All-Rookie team as selected by Pro Football Weekly and the Pro Football Writers of America. Ferguson, the fourth overall selection in last April’s draft, and Mangold, also selected in the first round at #29 overall, started every game for the Jets during the 2006 season.

Mangini Wins 101 Award

(Kansas City, MO) – The NFL 101 Awards – the nation’s only awards event dedicated exclusively to the National Football League – announced the six individual recipients for the 2006 season at a news conference today in Kansas City.

The New Orleans Saints captured two of the awards – Sean Payton as NFC Coach of the Year and quarterback Drew Brees as NFC Offensive Player of the Year. NFL Most Valuable Player Ladainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers was voted the AFC Offensive Player of the Year. Both defensive award winners are repeat honorees – Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, who won the same AFC Defensive Player of the Year award in 2001, and Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, who won the NFC award for the second straight season. The AFC Coach of the Year is the NFL’s youngest head coach, Eric Mangini of the New York Jets.

A national media committee, comprised of 101 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL, selected the winners in each award category in a nationwide vote at the conclusion of the regular season.The six recipients will be presented with trophies at the 37th Annual NFL 101 Awards gala, presented by Legacy Investment Partners. The prestigious, multi-media awards show is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City. The black-tie event was founded in 1969 and has evolved into what many sports insiders consider the finest awards event of its kind.
