New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning excused himself this afternoon upon coming home and finding his wife engaged in sexual relations with Mark Sanchez, the new quarterback of the New York Jets.
“I feel terribly guilty,” said Shelley Manning, Eli’s wife of one year. “I should have been more careful so that he couldn’t witness that. Eli is not mature enough to see such adult behavior. He still closes his eyes when he pees.”
Manning, who was dropped off at his home by his position coach after an afternoon of film study, bounded into his wife’s room to see if she wanted to watch his favorite film, “Cars” – only to receive a shock to his adorably naïve system.
“Miss Shelley ... what- what are you doing?” Manning stammered at the entrance to the bedroom, his Lightning McQueen sippy cup dropping to the floor. “Who is that man on you? Are you ... wrestling?”
“Oh, uhh ... hi, Eli,” said Sanchez, emerging from underneath the sheets. “This is weird. Very cool to meet you, man” he said, emerging naked from bed to shake Manning’s hand, sending a terrified Manning running into the closet. “I’m, umm .... Mark Sanchez? The new Jets quarterback? I was having some sex with Shelley here and, well ... what are you doing here?”
“Eli is my husband, Mark,” said Shelley, covering up before helping Eli out of the closet. “Legally. We’re husband and wife legally. It’s more of an arrangement with his parents. I’m a longtime family friend and I pretty much just keep an eye on him so he doesn’t hurt himself – make sure he brushes his teeth, make sure he doesn’t play video games in the bath tub, that sort of thing.”
Not wanting to cause a conflict, Manning quickly excused himself from the room, telling his wife and Sanchez that he was going to go color in the dining room. An hour later, Shelley Manning and the Jets draftee emerged from the bedroom and Sanchez went on his way.
Shelley Manning said she targeted Sanchez as soon as the Jets drafted him on Saturday.
“I am married to a famous New York quarterback, yes,” she said. “But no one knows what it’s really like, you know? It’s not ... it’s not a regular marriage, let’s just say that. I have needs. Basic human, carnal, sexual needs. And I wanted to know what it’s like to really be with a star New York quarterback in that way. I’m not going to apologize for it. And Mark Sanchez is simply an amazing looking man.”
After seeing Sanchez out, Shelly began her husband’s bedtime routine of a snack, story and prayers. And while he mentioned nothing about what he saw, Shelley knows Eli was upset by it.
“I put him to bed and then went out to the dining room to clean up his crayons,” she said. “He had drawn a picture of a quarterback in a Jets helmet wearing sweatpants and shooting himself in the leg. It was scary. And cute.”

My Thoughts On Drafting A QB
Brett Favre played for the Green Bay Packers from 1992 through 2007 which amounts to 16 seasons. (I'm not going to count the one year in Atlanta where he threw four passes all season and didn't complete a single one of them). He then went to the Jets for another season to start all 16 games with them. That's 269 consecutive career starts (and 291 if you include play-offs.)
Over Favre's entire career. The Jets have started 16 different quarterbacks - Brett Favre, Kellen Clemens, Chad Pennington, Brooks Bollinger, Vinny Testaverde, Quincy Carter, Ray Lucas, Rick Mirer, Glenn Foley, Neil O'Donnell, Frank Reich, Boomer Eaiason, Bubby Brister, Jack Trudeau, Browning Nagle, and Ken O'Brien. And that's just quarterbacks that we started. It doesn't include QBs that we drafted OR ones that went into the game after that first snap. I'm sure there are some random names that can be thought of like Jeff Blake, Mark Malone, Chuck Clements, Troy Taylor, Ken Hobart, Tory Woodbury, Todd Husak, Tom Tupa, Brett Ratliff, and Erik Ainge. But, these men weren't the answer either.
Since Joe Namath, the Jets have only drafted three quarterbacks with their first round pick while many years passing over that stud quarterback. Two things come to mind - passing over Dan Marino in 1983 and recently passed over Jay Cutler. Obviously there is a huge different between Marino and Cutler. And, I'm sure there have been other situations where the QB was there and we passed over it. We've drafted Richard Todd in 1976, Ken O'Brien in 1983, and Chad Pennington in 2000. That's been it.
Lately, most teams that win Super Bowls have done it with a Franchise quarterback. Look at Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, and Eli manning. While teams are winning the Super Bowl, the Jets go through an ever changing cycle of quarterbacks that frustrate the fan more and more each season.
The Jets were drafting at #17 with only Clemens, Ratfill, and Ainge on the roster and it was obvious that Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum didn't think they could win with what they had so they took a shot and moved up - a complete steal. We gave up our 1st, a 2nd, Abram Elam, Kenyon Coleman, and Brett Rafliff. The three players I could care less about. So, basically, we gave up a 2nd round pick to move up 12 slots to draft the QB of the Future - Mark Sanchez - who many scouts rate even higher than Matt Stafford. And, according to the value chart, we should have had to give up another #2 to make such a move. So we got our man that the Jets seems to be enamored with.
This is the splash we needed to get a face for this franchise. We had a temporary face last year in Favre but we knew that wasn't going to last long. Now, this guy should be that face for the next 10 years (knock on wood) and the answer to this Super Bowl drought that has brought a black cloud of this franchise for my entire life.
I'm truly excited for the season to begin and even though they say there will be competition between Clemens and Sanchez for the starting job, they are going to do everything possible to make Sanchez that person. Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning won only one game when thrown to the wolves. I'll take that one win if it means a Super Bowl around the corner.
The Mets have their Santana and now the Jets have their Sanchez.
I'm ready for kickoff.

Jets Land Sanchez !!!

If USC's Mark Sanchez turns out to be the franchise quarterback a lot of teams believe he will become, then Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum made the best draft move of the year. Basically, Tannenbaum stole Sanchez on value because he jumped 12 spots in the first round while surrendering only New York's first and second-round picks to the Browns, well below the value chart. The Jets should have been forced to give up another second-round pick next year instead of three reserve players they no longer wanted.
The Jets made another wise trade, moving into Detroit's spot atop the third round for Iowa running back Shonn Greene. Greene was the Big Ten offensive player of the year with 20 TDs and 1,850 yards rushing, a 6.0 average. RB is a definite need with Thomas Jones slowing down. And with the rumors of them possibly pursuing Plaxico Burress, you get the idea that Tannenbaum needed to make a splash in this draft.

The motto of the Jets' draft was quality over quantity. Mark Sanchez's selection made this team's draft because he's a franchise-maker. New coach Rex Ryan likes his defense, so the organization felt it could focus on the offense in his first draft. The Jets picked up Iowa running back Shonn Greene, who will fit into the rotation with Leon Washington and Thomas Jones. Guard Matthew Slauson was an OK pick in the sixth round, but the key to this draft is up top with Greene and Sanchez.

Looking At The Jets 2009 Schedule
My Schedule Thoughts:
1. Why do the Jets play the Dolphins twice in the 4 games within the 2nd quarter of the season?
2. Yup...another trip to Oakland but that's predetermined. Still sucks.
3. Last 4 games of the season against Non-Divisional opponents. Some of the last games should be against your division.
4. Bye is in the perfect spot for once...right after 8 games.
5. I like having home games on either side of the Bye so basically they are in town from 10/26 (back from Oakland) thru 11/21 (leave for New England).
6. Having two straight home games on the Jewish Holiday weekends with the worst being a 4:15 game a few hours before Yom Kippur.
7. First game of the season is a winable game for once.
8. We play the Bills in Toronto so that is a Dome Game eliminating another cold weather game.
9. Two night games both on the road is fine with me as it's hard to wake up the next day for work when they are home.
A. Beginning in Week 2, the Jets will host the Patriots and Titans, and then travel to New Orleans. Follow that with back-to-back divisional matchups against the Dolphins and Bills, and the Jets will be relieved to see the Raiders in Oakland in Week 7.
B. The Jets won't have to worry about going 0-4 on the West Coast again this season. Their lone date out west is a Week 7 game in Oakland, reducing their travel miles significantly from last season, when they logged nearly 20,000 miles just traveling back and forth from East Coast to West Coast.
C. With the Jets and Giants set to move into a new stadium in 2010, the Jets will play the final regular-season game at Giants Stadium against the ... wait for it ... Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17.
D. The Jets will host a Titans team looking for payback in Week 3. Last season, the Jets went into Tennessee in Week 12 and snapped the Titans' league-high 10-game winning streak.
E. Rex Ryan's defense will get its first look at the Patriots' high-powered offense in Week 2. Eric Mangini may be gone to Cleveland, but there will be no love lost in one of the league's most bitter rivalries.

The Jets are exploring several options on where to hold their training camp this summer, with numerous reports saying the possible destination has been narrowed down to Cornell, in Ithaca, N.Y., and SUNY Cortland, in Cortland, N.Y.
Regardless of which destination is chosen, training camp will not be held at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park.
In the past, they've held it at their former Hofstra University training complex, but after building a new $75 million complex on a 27-acre campus in Florham Park, it was presumed the team would hold training camp at the expensive and expansive facility.
However, one of the reasons behind the move is that new coach Rex Ryan, characterized by his "old-school" approach, wants to take the team to a secluded place.
When Ryan's father Buddy was the Jets' defensive coordinator in the 1960s, the team prepared for the season at a training camp in Peekskill, N.Y. Ryan the younger is trying to move the team to a similar location in his first season at the helm to build camaraderie, according to a Jets spokesman.
"Coach Ryan is looking to find a more isolated environment for training camp to promote team building and we are researching potential locations," the spokesman, Bruce Speight, said in a statement. "However, any plans will also include community events at our Atlantic Health Jets Training Center and in Long Island prior to the start of the regular season."
The move would also filter out distractions and get his players away from home. The Jets' Florham Park facility is still sparkling and less than a year old, but it doesn't have dorms to house the players. Nor does it have bleachers around the campus' five fields for fans to watch the team practice during training camp.
Friday's Cortland Standard reported that the Jets have had contact with SUNY Cortland officials.
"It was senior staff in logistics and operations," college spokesman Pete Koryzno told the Standard. "They were here for a couple of hours. The view from the stadium press box alone impressed them."
