It's weird to have the name Joe Namath and the word "grandpa" in the same sentence, but there it is.
Football legend Namath, the 1970s sex symbol and fur-wearing pop culture icon, has been made a grandfather with the birth of a little girl to his little girl.
Olivia Namath, 16, quietly gave birth to Natalia Namath on May 21 at Good Samaritan Hospital in WPB. Both mom and baby are doing fine.
Broadway Joe deemed himself "very happy" when Page Two caught up with him at his home in Tequesta to ask about his granddaughter. Wearing only a T-shirt and shorts, the overly tanned Namath quieted his four dogs, including a Weimaraner and a Chihuahua, on the steps of his Intracoastal home before flashing a huge Pepsodent smile.
"There are some things in life that are wonderful, and this is one of them," the 64-year-old former New York Jets QB and actor said. He transformed a wing of his home, in the Bay Harbor neighborhood, for Olivia and baby Natalia. "I'm just happy that everyone's healthy."
He declined to answer more questions.
Olivia is Joe Willie's youngest child with ex-wife Tatiana, whom in divorced in 1999. They have another daughter, 21-year-old Jessica.
Joe Namath is mostly known for guaranteeing a victory in Super Bowl III in 1969 against the overwhelming favorites, the Baltimore Colts. The guarantee quickly entered NFL lore, and Namath was among the era's most prolific pitchmen and TV analysts.
Namath, whose love for New York's nightlife was legendary, is semiretired after a boozy sideline TV appearance during a 2003 game in which he put the moves on female reporter Suzy Kolber.
