The 4 Faces of Mangini

Let The Off-Season Officially Begin...

Things to do:
1. Find a Head Coach
2. Find a GM to work with the Head Coach
3. Find a QB
4. Find an Offensive Coordinator
5. Find a Defensive Coordinator
6. Sell PSLs
7. Get a Pass Rush
8. Teach Gholston How To Play Defense
9. Make Keller The Starting Tight End
10. Sign A Punter

Mangini's final Words

Whatever dude !

Thoughs On PSLs

Not a ton of people want to shell out mega bucks in this economy. I think they should re-think the entire PSL pricing structure before they have an empty stadium.

Who's Next?

I've heard Parcells mentioned. I don't want him. I've heard Marty Schottenheimer mentioned. I don't want him. I've heard Steve Spagnolo (can't spell) mentioned. I don't want him. Why?

Parcells had his chance and left. Marty can't ever win a playoff game. And Spagnolo...he's the hot coordinator and that hasn't worked for us with Herm to Mangini.

So, that leaves two people I'd love - Bill Cower or even Brian Billick !

It's Tony's Fault !

How Good Would This Look !

Or This

Jay Glazer was just on with Boomer and Carton, and he said he has heard from multiple sources that the Jets job is one of the few jobs Bill Cowher has interest in. Glazer then asked Boomer for his opinion, and he gave the "No comment, I can't talk about that.....sworn to secretcy angle."

Interesting huh !

Mangini Fired

Well, that's that for our 17th coach in 40 years. Bring on the next candidate !

Another Collapse To End The Year !

First I had to suffer the 2nd straight Mets collapse to start this Fall. And now the Jets have one of their worst collapse ever and they've had some pathetic ones before including the 10-1 start losing the last 5 of the year.

But, this one was the worst in my book. We went out to revamp the offensive line and the defense in the offseason spending $140 million dollars. We dumped Chad Pennington for a 39 year old has-been named Brett Favre, we started out 8-3 after beating New England and the undefeated Titans, and then went on to lose 4 of the last 5 games with one of the easiest schedules down the stretch in the league.

Losing to the Raiders, 49ers, and Seahawks are embarrassing. But, then with all of the above, we let Chad Pennington walk into his old home and beat us to win the AFC east (even though we weren't making the playoffs anyway.)

It's just disgusting. I've had enough. Mangini is NOT Bill Belechick so he needs to stop acting like he is. The coordinators did a horrible job. Did you notice that the season changed for the worse when the coaching staff stopped letting Favre be Favre and tried to change who he is. Things got worse.

What happened to Dustin Keller the last few weeks? What happened to the running game? What happened to our tackling? What happened to our pass coverage? What happened to the pass rush? And the worst part was the coaching decisions and plays that were called from the sidelines.

Yesterday's loss didn't bother me as much as some of the other loses this year as we had already lost control of our own destiny. At 8-3, people were talking Super Bowl. Now, all I'm doing is looking to see where we are drafting, what teams we play next year, and if this 10:00 am conference call will mark the end of the Mangenius era. I hope so ! It's time to start over AGAIN !

Jets Disgusting !

I have no problems that we lost to San Diego early in the season. But, losing to the Raiders was pathetic. Losing to the 49ers was unacceptable. And now losing to the Seahawks after controlling their own destiny to make the playoffs is absolutely unacceptable.

Yesterday was a total joke. Eric Mangini hasn’t a clue what he’s doing. Two years ago when we made the playoffs was a fluke. Last year and this year show the kind of job he’s doing and it ain’t good. This guy stands on the sidelines with his headset on and doesn’t do a thing the entire game. Is he listening to his I-pod? Why doesn’t he talk to his players or coaches? I’ll tell ya why? Because he doesn’t have a clue and I’m sick and fed up with this sham. This guy ain’t a head coach; he’s a ball boy. His game plans are embarrassing. How do you lose to three of the worst teams in the year and I really don’t care that they were out west. If you are a good team, you have to beat teams like the Raiders, 49ers, and Seahawks. I guess we should be lucky we don’t travel to Detroit next week to play the Lions as you know that would give them their first victory of the year.

Yesterday pissed me off more than any game this season. We’ve played like garbage since beating the Titans and we should have lost last week as well if it weren’t for that miracle fumble. Where is the emotion? We needed to destroy a team like the Seahawks yesterday. I don’t care that they had to travel 3,000 miles or that is was snowing. Maybe Herm Edwards was right after all those years saying, “Ya play to win the game.” The Jets play to lose the game.

I’m not sure what Mangini was thinking many times this game. After Feely kicked a field goal, it was taken away for a delay of game penalty which should NEVER happen. Then, he decides to punt instead of kick it again? Why? Feely booted that kick that would have made it from 55 yards away.

At the end of the game, we still had 3 time outs and instead of punting, we went for it on 4th down deep on the wrong side of the field basically ending the game? Why didn’t we punt OR why weren’t these timeouts used on the Seahawks last drive? You shouldn’t be sitting with three timeouts so deep into the game?

The play calling was as horrific as it’s been all year. We never convert third or fourth and short. We either run into a pile for no gain, throw the ball short of the 1st down marker, or go deep which they did a few times yesterday when the play should have been to just get the first down.

Things looked so good the first drive and it stalled when Mangini went conservative kicking a field goal instead of going for it. We had all the momentum and a touchdown would have made a statement that the Jets were there to play. Yeah, they were there to play but it surely wasn’t football; it was more like tiddlywinks!

I’m truly disgusted from this coaching staff. All the pieces were in place to have a magical season but we can’t be losing teams. So, after 38 years of being a Jets fan, I hope Chad Pennington and the Miami Dolphins come into Giants Stadium and beat us. Then, fire this Mangini clown already and get a coach (like Bill Cower) who could turn these losers into winners.

They say that Christmas week is “the most wonderful time of year.” Well, it ain’t for Jets fans !

Brett's End?

Why is he talking the end already when we are 2 games from winning the AFC East !

Jets Record For Pro-Bowl

Jets get a franchise record SEVEN named to the NFL Pro-Bowl !

Four of the seven have been named AFC starters — running back Thomas Jones, guard Alan Faneca, nose tackle Kris Jenkins and kick returner Leon Washington. Three have been named backups — quarterback Brett Favre, center Nick Mangold and cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Maybe I'll even watch the game this year !

Definitey Pot Luck !

Well, the game was lost. We were about to lose our 3rd game in a row and fall a game behind the Dolphins with 2 games to go. I was disgusted at the coaching staff. I was sick of the offense. And the defense was grotesque.

But, deep in their own end, the Bills had a huge blunder. Instead of running the ball to take more time off the clock, they decided to throw the ball which made no sense since we couldn't stop the run all day long. Abraham Elam blitzes and gets to the QB and strips the ball. Our resident pot smoker, Shawn Ellis, touches the loose ball, and then it bounces and then he scoops it up and trots 11 yards into the endzone. Jets take the lead with a little under 2 minutes to go. Another Meadowlands Miracle !

We had no right winning the game they way we played and the way we were coached. With 2:06 left in the game, we used a time-out. Why? To save six seconds? The announcers even made the comment that it made no sense. Maybe we should bring back Dick Curl to manage the clock and time-outs.

Our special teams coverage was horrible. How could we not be ready for a fake punt that basically kept the Bills in the game in the first quarter. It seems like we are never ready for the onsides kick or the fake punt this year. Besides one good punt that we got a lucky roll to get us out of trouble, we are in serious need of a punter that can punt. And every time the Bills punted, it seemed as if we were pinned deep. So annoying !

Our offense looked great in the first quarter and then the just weren't insync. There were some bad throws including two horrible interceptions. But, the offense doesn't move well when the plays stink. Why on 3rd and 4th and short, do we ALWAYS run straight into a pile for no gain lately? Take it to the outside? Call a play action and complete the short pass as they did earlier in the year. We should be walking down the field and scoring at will like we did against the Titans last month.

The defense was terrible until the lucky end when we had the big fumble and two interceptions. However, until then, it was mostly their fault that we were losing the game as we couldn't tackle at all.

So, we now face another trip out west. We are 0-3 out there. This is a must win. If we win on Sunday, we play for the AFC crown the following week. It's crunch time. It's time to go out west and whip the living shit out of the Seahawks.
Then, bring on Chad Pennington and those stale fish !

Suckin' Out West !

What a crap two weeks the Jets have gone through. After getting murdered last week by a Denver team we didn't play well against, we looked ever worse yesterday against a terrible team.

I really don't care that the Jets had to travel across the country for their 3rd time this year. Good teams don't let that bother them.

Yesterday's first five minutes set the tone for the game. The 49ers won the flip and deferred. So, we were going to receive the ball. However, they went for the onsides kick and luckily, Brad Smith was in the perfect spot. So, we had the ball in great field position to start the game. However, after 3 plays, we were facing a 4th and 2 from their 38 yard line and they elect to punt? What the heck? What's a punt gonna do when he punts it in the endzone? And that is exactly what he did - 49ers ball on the 20. Mangini...were you castrated? Where are your balls? You are against a crap team on the road after a devastating loss last week. This is where don't even try a field goal...you just go for the first down.

I'm not sure what the offensive game plan was the entire game. Actually, they didn't have a game plan. Maybe Mangini just said, "Screw it" this week and let them play. Well, whatever happened, we had ZERO offense. Heck...the offensive was barely on the field the entire game. And when we were, it was Thomas Jones up the middle for 2 yards. What was wrong? We were playing a team that can't stop the run or pass and we didn't take advantage of anything. There were brief moments when I thought they'd get it going but those moments were like tighty whities - Brief !

And the defense was like a bad whore - it sucked ! We couldn't stop the run and even when their running back went down, we couldn't stop the backups either. We also made a nobody Quarterback look like an All-Pro out there. Where was the pass rush? I think maybe we had 2 sacks and one was for no loss of yardage. They were so pathetic that they had an off-sides call on 4th and 1 to keep a 49ers drive alive. That's just unacceptable.

The special teams stank like a bad fart. Leon Johnson runs a beautiful kickoff return for a touchdown and it gets called back for a penalty. That's a joke. Don't block in the back and don't hold. I'd rather have the returner tackled than have a penalty erasing good field position.
Favre was under pressure all day. What happened to our rebuilt offensive line? And why couldn't we run or get a receiver open? And Mangini...what is up with these flea flicker trick plays. Didn't we muff one last week in the rain? Well, we muffed another one this year week with Brad Smith. Enough of these plays. We should be a good enough team to win without these trick plays that aren't working. Jesus !

Mangini looks like a ball boy out there. In three seasons, how many well coached games can you recall? This guy isn't doing the job. With the team and talent we have, we should have hit our 10th win now instead, we are stuck with 8 wins. Things were going so well after New England and Tennessee. So, what happened since then? People were talking Super Bowl. Now, it will be a struggle just to get in the play-offs as we let the Patriots and Dolphins right back into a tie with us. We should have been thinking about clinching the division soon. Now, we're limping towards the finish line.

Who knows what will happen next year. Will Favre be back? If not, and we don't make the play-offs, it's a wasted year since we have no proven QB that can lead this team.

So, this team better get their act together. There are three games left. Let's win all three and make it to the play-offs on a hot streak.

Time to stop typing. I'm gonna have diarrhea thinking about yesterday's game.

FIRST PLACE BABY !

Same ole Jets? It sure seemed like it was going to be the same ole Jets but something happened. We won !

This is a new team. A new era. A new leader in the AFC East standings. Yes, the New York Jets, winners now of four straight games, are in first place after going into Foxboro to play our most bitter rival and coming out with a crazy 34 - 31 victory.

It was our old HC of the NYC for a few hours against his old coordinator. It was New York vs Boston. It was the biggest non-playoff game in the Mangini Era. It was time to make a statement against a good team that has owned us the past few years. A loss would have proved that we can't beat anyone good and we had lost 11 of the last 12 games to the Patriots. However, a win was going to show that we are a team to be reckoned with and it surely helped that a man named Tom Brady was not on the other sidelines.

It was a game of highs and lows. Who would have thought that the Jets would be up 24-6 (and should have been more had Dustin Keller not dropped a TD pass but I surely have forgiven him). A true Jet fan knows that nothing is easy (well, unless you play the Rams) so we knew it would be a battle. I didn't think we'd blow and 18 point lead but I knew it would be close.

The first half was great. On the game's first drive, Leon Washington caught a 7 yard TD pass from Favre to put the Jets up 7-0 after a nice drive down the field. After giving up a field goal, it was time for more Jets. Jerricho Cotchery made a crazy one handed grab on a Favre bomb for 42 yards. I'm still not sure how he caught the ball. We wound up with a field goal. And before I knew it, there was Leon Washington on a Kick Off return after another Patriots field goal running for 92 yards and a touchdown to increase the lead. This Leon guy is so dangerous every time he touches the ball. Before I knew it, we were up 24 to 6 after another Jets TD. And then the Jets fell asleep. The defense was playing great until we got 24 points. With not a lot of time left in the half, we gave the ball back to the Patriots after the offense stalled and they wound up with a TD right before the half to keep them in the game. So, how can you complain being up 24 to 13 in New England? I surely wasn't complaining.

However, the 3rd quarter was disgusting. We had no offensive game plan. I think we had like 20 yards of total offense in the 3rd quarter leaving our defense on the field most of the time and they weren't doing anything. The Patriots were confusing us a bit but we were not rushing the passer and leaving guys wide open down the field. The Patriots score of course and then go for 2 points where we NEVER can stop. Why are we the only team in the league that NEVER stops a 2 point conversion and never makes them either? Anyway, it was then 24-21 and then before I could blink (a Cotchery fumble hurt), it was 24-24. Yup...we just gave them 18 points right back with shoddy defense. I was disgusted going into the 4th quarter.

But Brett Favre was not going to let the Jets down. We had a HUGE time consuming drive, helped out with a defensive holding call, that got Thomas Jones into the endzone for a score. Phewwww. Back up by 7.

We then held the Patriots forcing them to punt but in typical Jets fashion, we got conservative thinking we could just run out the clock. On 3rd and 2, we went for a run to seal the game. Of course, we didn't gain a yard and had to punt. Come on Mangini, throw a safe pass. We were not going to get two yards in that situation where the entire Patriots team was on the line. So, we had to give them the ball back with a bit over a minute to go and NO time-outs.

And I knew what was going to happen. They walked right down the field and scored on a crazy sideline catch by Randy Moss with Ty Law right on him. Play reviewed - game tied. The Defense was gross the 2nd half. Matt Cassel threw for 400 yards. Yes...Cassell, not Tom Brady, threw for 400 yards. What a joke. And Mangini and crew did was most Jets fans can't stand...they went to the Prevent D. Yup...and again, it didn't work. It drives me crazy. I can't tell you how many games in my life I've seen the Prevent Defense prevent the Jets from winning. It must be at least 50+ devastating losses.

So, there was the coin flip heading into OT. I can't believe I didn't wake up my daughter after the cursing and screaming at the TV. At this point, I kissed my in-laws and wife goodnight as I knew we were going to lose and when that would happen, I wasn't talking to anyone and was just going to leave the room and go upstairs to try and sleep.

But, Brett Favre orchestrated one of the best drives in NY Jets history. The drive didn't start well with a sack on the first play and no gain on the second play. But, on 3rd and 15, Favre found Dustin Keller for 14 and he spun and dove for the last yard to keep the drive alive. This Keller guy is going to be a star ! Favre was 5 for 6 on that last drive with a few huge passes to Keller and Coles. He drove the team for 14 plays and 64 yards to set up the FG attempt. I just kept on flashing back to Herm Edwards and the whole field goal fiasco in that cost us that game in Pittsburgh. But, this was going to be different. We were on the 18 yard line. The snap was a bit high. It got down. And Feely nailed it. The Jets Win. The Jets Win.

We are now 3-0 vs the AFC East on the Road so now Buffalo and Miami have to come to us. Take away next week's game at Tennessee, our schedule is in our favor. Dare I say that word that starts with "P"? I won't say it yet but I'm starting to believe now !

Historic Win Sets Up Thursday Night's Battle

I missed the home opener this year for my neice's baby naming. But, since then, the Jets have had 4 home games and now, each has been a victory.

Of those two games, I have witnessed a 34-0 lead that turned into the Jets scoring 55 points. Now, yesterday, I get a 40-0 lead at half-time and romp 47-3 which turned out to be the gets biggest margin of victory EVER.

Now, it sets up for the biggest game in a few years on Thursday Night. It's Jets vs Patriots with the winner taking sole position of first place.

I don't even know where to begin from yesterday's game. The offense did everything right. Favre didn't even need to do much as he completed just 14 passes (but only missed on 5) for a season low 167 yards. But, that is fine with me as he made the throws when he needed to. The biggest one was a 54 yard bomb to first round pick Dustin Keller. When was the last time you saw a Jets tight end run a DEEP route and catch the ball? This guy is going to change the entire offense as he learns the game. He also caught a short TD and had his first 100 yard game as a pro. What was great is that it was Favre's first time in 8 games he didn't throw an interception. Again, we didn't have to throw the ball too much. In the entire 2nd half, we only had two passing attempts.

The Jets didn't need to pass because they were running all day long. Thomas Jones had the brunt of the work rushing for 149 yards and 3 TDs. The Jets scored EVERY time they touched the ball in the first half (7 for 7).

However, the story of the day was the defense. We forced 5 turnovers (two interceptions and 3 fumbles). Calvin Pace ran for a 50 yard TD after Abram Elam squashed their QB forcing the ball loose. Kerry Rhodes finally got into the interception action snagging one as we as Hank Poteat. Dwight Lowery and Bryan Thomas also forced the other fumbles. We were pressuring the QB all day and were just dominating them against the run as they had no where to go.

And how about backup kicker Jay Feely? He booted some pretty long field goals including a 55 yarder.

It was a complete game all around but it was against the pathetic Rams.

Thursday night will tell a better story if we can go up to Foxboro and stick it up the Pats asses !

First Place Baby !

Ahhhh, it's nice to be in first place. We are technically tied with the Patriots and Bills but the tie breaker for 3 teams is divisional record and we have a better one!

Yesterday was a bit interesting.

We basically swapped touchdowns on interception returns but Favre's really hurt us as his was late in the game and made it into a nail biter.

But, I loved how he responded. He orchestrated a 14 play, near 9 minute drive for a field goal to solidify the victory.

There was one stretch of the game where the Bills had the ball for 24 straight plays and got basically nothing out of it. My fear was that the defense was going to get tired but they played a solid game. Jenkins had his best day as a Jet with two sacks and a few other pressures. Revis had a great day as well with two interceptions with one going for 92 yards for the score.

But, the play of the game had to be Leon Washington what he did on a kickoff return after the Bills scored to make it close again. A ball gets kicked deep near the sideline but was not going out of bounds. Leon takes on foot and make sure it is out of bounds. While keeping his foot out of bounds, he fields the ball which was still in play. Huh? It turns out that doing this is the same as kicking the ball out of bounds. Who the hell knows this rule? Who has the brains on the field to even think about this? Hats off to Westoff for coaching this little known rule into his players heads. Instead of starting deep in our end, we now were starting on the 40 yard line. What a great play. He should have gotten the game ball just for this play alone.

The offense mixed it up a bit better not just throwing the ball and had a more balanced attack. They got some big key runs out of Jones and Washington when they needed it and Coles and Cotchery had solid games.

Hey, we went into Buffalo where we NEVER play well and won a divisional game. I'm not gonna get too nit picky on this one.

Can you say 5-3 and those First Place Jets ! Woooooooooooooo Yeah !

Barely Survived !

Herm Edwards, the man who "plays to win the game" was back in the building and yesterday reinforced why I'm glad that he and Dick Curl and NOT part of this organization anymore. If they weren't so conservative and knew how to manage a game clock, they would have basically ended the Jets season yesterday. Instead, the Jets are still alive, but barely, heading into Buffalo next week to set up a huge game.

Farve had some good moments and some awful ones. Two of the interceptions were on strange plays where instead of trying to get a first down, he chucked the ball deep into double coverage for interceptions. But, the worst one was at the 9 yard line where even 3 points would have made it a two score game and throws a horrific interception that went back for 7 points the other way. Oh shit...Jets are behind to one of the worst teams in the league.

I'm not sure what is going on with the coaching. On 3rd and 1 in a tight game, don't' you think you should get the first down instead of throwing the ball deep? This is the 3rd year of this offense and I just scratch my head on at least 2 play calls EVERY drive. Many plays make no sense and the offense is so horizontal. When they do change it up and go more vertical, things happen. I'd like to see a crossing pattern across the middle once and a while. That would be nice. It's not like we don't have people to catch the ball.

What pissed me off the most is that we had around just 5 running plays the first half. I found out the reason for this. Since Chris Baker got hurt in warm-ups, they started Dustin Keller. To back him up, they used an OL named Robert Turner as the #2 tight end. Since he is an OL, they used him as a blocker to protect Favre for passing. But, what makes NO sense is why can't he block for the run? He's an OL right? We have 4 other OLs on the line. It makes NO sense why the entire offense in the first half was tailored around Robert Turner who I NEVER heard of before. I heard this on WFAN this morning and the more I heard about it, the more pissed off I got. What's more annoying is that the Chiefs were the WORST in the league in stopping the run (giving up 205 yards per game) and all we did was throw the ball. Hey Mangini...were you smoking weed while coming up with this week's game plan?

Anyway, I also heard Coles going to the coaches after the first half and telling them to throw him the ball. Now, this is one of our Top receivers. Why does he have to tell the coaches to pass the ball to him. When he gets the ball, things happen so why not make him more part of the offense? Sometimes I really get frustrated by our coaching staff and I really don't think they have a clue. Turns out, Coles caught the winning TD with a minute left in the game. But, what is more annoying, is that with one minute to go, we let Tyler Thigpen (who?) drive down the field to about the 20 before their drive stalled. Where was the defense? How could you let a 3rd string QB pick apart your defense in his first game ever?

The player of the game was Leon Washington. He scored the first TD on a one handed grab that went for 18 yards and then stored another one on a 60 yard run. But, his play on special teams getting us great field position was the key. The funny thing is that we drafted Washington as a compensation pick for Herman Edwards.

Well, maybe things will be better playing a good team next week. We surely didn't look good facing a bad team. Or, maybe we are a bad team ourselves with an easy schedule. We'll understand this team much better after next Sunday.

Where's Our OL ?

At this rate, Favre is gonna get KILLED soon !
