Barely Survived !

Herm Edwards, the man who "plays to win the game" was back in the building and yesterday reinforced why I'm glad that he and Dick Curl and NOT part of this organization anymore. If they weren't so conservative and knew how to manage a game clock, they would have basically ended the Jets season yesterday. Instead, the Jets are still alive, but barely, heading into Buffalo next week to set up a huge game.

Farve had some good moments and some awful ones. Two of the interceptions were on strange plays where instead of trying to get a first down, he chucked the ball deep into double coverage for interceptions. But, the worst one was at the 9 yard line where even 3 points would have made it a two score game and throws a horrific interception that went back for 7 points the other way. Oh shit...Jets are behind to one of the worst teams in the league.

I'm not sure what is going on with the coaching. On 3rd and 1 in a tight game, don't' you think you should get the first down instead of throwing the ball deep? This is the 3rd year of this offense and I just scratch my head on at least 2 play calls EVERY drive. Many plays make no sense and the offense is so horizontal. When they do change it up and go more vertical, things happen. I'd like to see a crossing pattern across the middle once and a while. That would be nice. It's not like we don't have people to catch the ball.

What pissed me off the most is that we had around just 5 running plays the first half. I found out the reason for this. Since Chris Baker got hurt in warm-ups, they started Dustin Keller. To back him up, they used an OL named Robert Turner as the #2 tight end. Since he is an OL, they used him as a blocker to protect Favre for passing. But, what makes NO sense is why can't he block for the run? He's an OL right? We have 4 other OLs on the line. It makes NO sense why the entire offense in the first half was tailored around Robert Turner who I NEVER heard of before. I heard this on WFAN this morning and the more I heard about it, the more pissed off I got. What's more annoying is that the Chiefs were the WORST in the league in stopping the run (giving up 205 yards per game) and all we did was throw the ball. Hey Mangini...were you smoking weed while coming up with this week's game plan?

Anyway, I also heard Coles going to the coaches after the first half and telling them to throw him the ball. Now, this is one of our Top receivers. Why does he have to tell the coaches to pass the ball to him. When he gets the ball, things happen so why not make him more part of the offense? Sometimes I really get frustrated by our coaching staff and I really don't think they have a clue. Turns out, Coles caught the winning TD with a minute left in the game. But, what is more annoying, is that with one minute to go, we let Tyler Thigpen (who?) drive down the field to about the 20 before their drive stalled. Where was the defense? How could you let a 3rd string QB pick apart your defense in his first game ever?

The player of the game was Leon Washington. He scored the first TD on a one handed grab that went for 18 yards and then stored another one on a 60 yard run. But, his play on special teams getting us great field position was the key. The funny thing is that we drafted Washington as a compensation pick for Herman Edwards.

Well, maybe things will be better playing a good team next week. We surely didn't look good facing a bad team. Or, maybe we are a bad team ourselves with an easy schedule. We'll understand this team much better after next Sunday.

Just Disgusting

Losing to the Raiders yesterday was just disgusting. I'm so sick of this team pulling the same crap every year. This should have been a WIN when you look at the schedule and in typical Jets fashion, they dissappoint again ! I have nothing more to say !

Finally Above .500 !

Well, a win is a win is a win.

But, I have a big problem with the Jets marketing department. We have had 3 home games. I've been to the last two of them and both times we've been in those blue and gold hideous uniforms. We are Gang Green and the newspapers are calling us Big Blue II and that is enough to make me barf. Come on. We are a green team. I want to see green and white uniforms out there. I feel like I'm watching a Michigan game. It's time to stop with these uniforms already and get back to the proper colors.

That being said, we won. It was quite ugly at times and there we were again at the end sweating it out. This team can't do anything easy and the way the game started out, I thought it was going to be a typical Jets loss to a team that hadn't won yet all year. Before we could blink, Favre fumbled the ball and the Bengals took it back for a touchdown. Blink Blink...we're down 7 - 0.

But we responded. Favre had a decent game throwing 1 TD for about 189 yards but most of the passes seemed short and safe with a few chances down the field. Two of them were picked off but those were on 3rd down and pinned the Bengals deep so it was like a punt and put them in bad field position. It seemed like the first one, Favre thought the penalty was on them and it was a free play but it turned out the flag was on us. Oh well. We won the battle of field position all day even though we didn't do a ton with it. I just wished they opened it up more. There were times when I saw Cotchery wide open deep but the ball went for a short safe pass. There were a ton of plays that were horizontal to the line of scrimmage where we would gain one to three yards. I thought we got Brett Favre to make this a vertical game. I thought they were gonna open it up more after their last game with 56 points but it didn't happen.

The offense seemed conservative but they got the first downs when needed. Thomas Jones had his best game as a Jet with 2 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD for a bit under 90 yards.

As for the defense, they did fantastic. They held the Bengals rushers in check all game. Their leading rusher was their QB. And we didn't really let Ocho Dorko beat us as he was the only one to even catch the ball. We had some good pass rush and some great playing by Calvin Jones, David Harris, Darelle Revis, and Nick Lowery to name a few.

Now we have a few games we should win before setting up that battle with Buffalo. Let's just hope they are wearing GREEN again by the time that game happens.

Gholston ?

Let's hope this guy learns a lot in the off weak so he can contribute to the defense already !

To nobody's surprise, Brett Favre was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after his career-high six-touchdown performance in the the Jets' 56-31 rout of the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Favre completed 24 of 34 passes for 289 yards in his 257th consecutive start. He threw one interception and had a 123.7 passer rating.

Favre's six TDs tied Joe Namath for the club's single-game record.

Damn...That Was A Lot Of Points

What a fun game to be at !
