Jets Get Hosed !

It was 20 years ago in Cleveland where the infamous judgement call by an official on a Mark Gastineau "late hit" screwed the Jets out of a chance to advance to the Championship Game. Twenty years later, we are back in Cleveland where another judgement call doesn't go out way and turns a potential celebration into something I'd call Cow Feces or Bull Shit.

When Baker goes up to catch the ball, he is jumping up in the endzone. There was NO movement of his body that showed him jumping right, towards the sideline. It was a great catch that would have been a touchdown if he weren't touched. But, he was thrown out of bounds in mid air causing mass confusion by the officials. One official said he was pushed out of bounds while the other official believed he would have landed in bounds for a Touchdown. So, it figures that the guy who believed it was a TD lost the argument when the officials huddled for a discussion. It was another example of the Jets getting hosed.

However, this game should NOT have come down to the last play. It was a typical Jets loss. Have a chance to end the first half of the season with a winning record against a team you SHOULD beat. Teams like this need to be beaten whether at home or on the road. The Jets ALWAYS lose a game like this on their schedule. It's beyond frustrating. Same shit, another year.

Things started off nice. We had a 16 play drive but it ended in only a field goal. You have the ball for so long, you need to come away with 7 points. However, you can't use a trick play with Brad Smith on EVERY 3rd Down. If teams watch tapes, they are gonna realize you are gonna have Brad Smith in the game. Time to come up with something more original. Maybe put him in the game and let him catch some passes or use him as a decoy. He doesn't have to get the ball EVERY time cause it just won't work. Plus, Chad was terrible with his lowest passer rating of his career. I don't fully blame him. They had decent pass rush and receivers were just not getting open. Plus, when you run for 1 or 2 yards on 1st down, it put Chad in way too many 3rd and long situations. I think 3rd and 6 is a number that comes to mind yesterday.

As for the defense, they just can't stop the run even thought they actually looked good in the 4th quarter finally getting some QB pressures and finally stopping the run giving the offense a chance. We actually even got a few sack's which doesn't happen often with this team.

Tough loss going into the bye week but we totally deserved to lose playing down to their talent especially vs a QB I've never heard of and STILL can not remember his name. Three of the Jets 4 loses this year, the outcome was not determined until the final minute. That leaves a sick feeling in my stomach.

Knocking On The Door

Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven's door. This team sure doesn't make it easy but we've notched our 2nd straight win and our easy schedule make you believe this team can go on a playoff run. Yes, it's scary but it's true. We already have 4 wins and look at 6 of the 9 remaining teams we play: Look at 1-5 Cleveland, 1-5 Oakland, 2-4 Houston, 1-6 Miami, 2-4 Green Bay and 2-5 Buffalo.

Yesterday, we had another bad team. When two bad teams play, the better of the bad will win and that seems to be the JETS.

The offense moved the ball nicely down the field which Chad hitting McCairins deep for 7. But, the day was all about the running game as we had over 200 yards on the run which set up the pass. Leon Washington is starting to make us not remember that we didn't trade up for Reggie Bush. This guy is looking like the steal of the draft and could be a candidate for Rookie of the Year if he keeps it up. Yesterday this guy had 129 yards on the ground for 2 touchdowns. Can't complain about those numbers especially when he averaged 6.5 yards per carry.

The defense still has issues. We still have NO pass rush and we still let teams walk down the field in the 2nd half to make a potential blowout turn into a nail biter.

But, a win is a win and that's what matters. We are in sole possession of 2nd place in the AFC East with a matchup vs. the Pats in 2 weeks. But for not, bring on the pathetic Browns !

Barely Squishing The Fish

Well, we squeaked by the Fish and in what became a close game because our defense really stinks. Do we have ANY pass rush? Where are our corner backs and safeties? How can you let Joey Harrington walk down the field twice and almost a third time? Embarrassing. The defensive system does not fit our players and the players are not that bad.

As for the offense, it's quite pathetic that we can't score in the first quarter. Maybe because they don't start throwing the ball down the field until the 2nd half. All of these stupid dump off passes and trickery is great but get the ball down field to Coles. Good things happen when you throw the ball down field to this guy. And get Cotchery and McCairins and Dwight more involved. Heck...throw to Baker more and use the tight end like other teams do. We do the same stupid things that we did under the Edwards regime. When it is 3rd down, we don't EVER throw past the 3rd down marker. We throw a pass before that marker and hope we can break a tackle and run for the first down. Ya know what? It AIN'T freggin working. You need 7 yards. Let's try and throw for 8 yards, not 5 yards. It's so aggravating. I love the use of Brad Smith but let's get him more involved. This guy is quick as hell. Heck...give him a series to see what he can do ala Kordell Stewart in his hey day !

And how great is Brad Smith on special teams. It seems like he made EVERY tackle on the KO returner.

Not much really happened yesterday to comment on. It was boring first half following but a fun-sweat-it-out second half. But, in the old days, the game gets tied on a Mare field goal and we lose in OT. Yesterday, he missed. So, maybe the tide is slowly changing.

Murdered !

What we had done to the Colts in the playoffs a few years ago was done right back to us yesterday by the Jaguars. We got murdered 41-0. Ouch.

Right from the start, it was a disaster. First of all, the 3-4 defense is NOT working. The holes were enormous for the Jags to run thru. Their first 2 touchdown runs were up the middle and were not even touched by the defense. This team needs 4 men on the line and needs Vilma to be the middle linebacker to float around and wreak havock like he did last year. I'm not loving the system now by Mr. Mangini. It's not working and it is not like there isn't any talent on the defensive line and the linebacker core. It would be nice to get some pass rush going. Oh wait, we did have some pass rush but we got fucked by the refs twice. The first was when Vilma came rushing in and pounded the QB while releasing the ball and they called roughing. Come on...give me a break. How the hell was he suppossed to know that the QB did not have the ball in his hands. The second time was worse. We sacked the QB for what appeared to be a safety and they called a roughing the passer penality. The QB still had the ball so basically they called a penality for tackling the QB too hard? I've NEVER seen that ever. We were still getting murdered at the time but what the freggin hell !

As for the offense, the running game was a bit better with Leon Washington getting nearly 100 yards. I want this guy to be the starter. This running back by committe idea sucks. You need one guy to get the bulk of the runs so he can get into a groove. Every possession, you can't change the running back. That doesn't work.

Chad was not great yesterday throwing two interceptions but the first one was not all his fault as it was deflected. Part of the problem was that no one was open and our field position was horrendous all day.

I don't know what else to see. The entire game was embarrassing. I had it on but found my self not paying too much attention in the 2nd half. Just think, we probably won't have a game the rest of the season that is worse than this one !

Close But No Cigar

No one gave the Jets a chance. And, the scary part was that we almost pulled it off. The game started out with us spotting the Colts 7 points on a fumble and you can't spot this team any points. After a pretty pathetic first quarter, the team came alive having a nice drive for a TD to tie up the game. Then, Mangini dropped his pants and let his balls out. To keep the momentum, they called for an on-sides kick. And miraculously, they recovered. What a set of balls it takes to make that call. We then walk down the field again for a TD to take a lead. It figures that we'd give it back to them but being tied with the 3-0 Colts at the half was somewhat satisfying.

The part of the game that pissed me off was that we had the ball 1st and 7 from the 7 and instead of kicking a field goal on 4th down and getting points to extend the lead, they went for it despite having a WEAK running game. Even worse, they called a pass play and Chad made his first huge mistake in 120 tries, he threw a pick in the endzone. OUCH. That hurt. I think Mangini's balls got too big for his pants.

The Colts started to get it together and we had NO pass rush for much of the game. You can't let Manning have as much time as he did. It figures he walks down the field and gets a TD. However, a bull shit call set up the TD when they called pass interference on Justin Miller. What a crap call.

Miller was definitely pissed off. He was so pissed that he took the kick off for 103 yards for a Touchdown to give the Jets a lead. However, he scored too fast as the Colts now had the ball and drove right down the field for a TD leaving the Jets with only 50 seconds on the clock.

Now, another Mangini mistake was giving a Rookie, Leon Washington, the chore of handling the kick off as he believed Miller was too tired. So, Washington muffs the kick and we have to now start with the ball on our own 2 yard line. Huge mistake. After a few passes, there is 8 seconds left and time for one last play. Yup...it was flea flicker time. There were 8 different LEGAL flea flickers on this play and we got as close as the 27 yard line. It would have been insane but we fell short as we did in our home opener. Another heartbreaking loss against a team that people said we didn't belong on the field with.

So, we are now 2-2 and our losses are to the Pats and the Colts, both in the final mintues of the game. Hmmmmm...maybe we aren't as bad as the writers say we are. Maybe we are a stud pash rusher away from being a quality team. When Chad is healthy, the offense can move the ball. So, maybe a little more D and we are right there with these "elite" teams.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still pissed as we had a chance to win. I wish we had broken that sissy boy (Peyton's) legs !
