The New York Jets were involved in the first trade of the 2007 NFL Draft. The Gang Green traded their #25 overall selection, #59 selection (2nd round) and #164 selection (5th round) for Carolina's #14 overall and #191 overall (6th round). With the acquired from the Panthers #14 overall the Jets selected CB Darrelle Revis from the University of Pittsburgh. Revis, 6'0", 197 lbs can also play at free safety and return punts.
Revis played in all 12 games with 11 starts as a true freshman in 2004 recording 49 total tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and one forced fumble to earn freshman All-American accolades. In 2005, he became a first team All-Big East performer after starting all 11 games and posting 41 total tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick. Revis once again started all 12 contests in 2006 and registered 39 total tackles including four for loss, two inceptions (both returned for touchdowns), and four pass breakups garnering his second straight All-Big East first team selection. Over the course of the past three seasons, Revis has also returned 54 punts for 555 yards (10.3 average) and two touchdowns (79 and 73 yards).
The New York Jets exchanged draft picks again, as they traded their #63 overall (2nd round), #89 overall (3rd round) and #191 overall (6th rounf) for Green Bay's #47 overall (2nd round) and #235 overall (7th round). Then, with their #47 overall pick, the Gang Green selected LB David Harris from Michigan.
According to ESPN's Draft Guide, David Harris, 6'2", 239 lbs, is the third best inside linebacker in the draft. He has good instincts and great motor. He, however, lacks in pass coverage skills and speed (ran 40 yards in 4.59 seconds at the Scouting Combine).
In 33 games at Michigan, Harris started 25 times. He closed out his career with 196 tackles (136 solos), 4.0 sacks for minus-29 yards and 20 stops for losses of 68 yards. He caused 3 fumbles and recovered another. He gained 8 yards on an interception return and also deflected 4 passes.
Overall, this is a solid pick, as the Jets chose a quality player and someone who can play inside in their 3-4 defense.
In the 6th round, the Gang Green selected OT Jacob Bender from Nicholls State. Bender, 6'6", 316 lbs is a solid prospect who did not allow a single sack in his senior season and produced eight touchdown-resulting blocks.
Later, in the 7th round, the Jets chose WR Chansi Stuckey from Clemson. Stuckey is 5'10", 185 lbs, very fast (40 yards in 4.34 seconds) and can also return punts. In 38 games at Clemson, including 31 as a receiver, Stuckey started 30 times. He ranks sixth in school history with 141 receptions and eighth with 1,760 yards (12.5 avg.), including seven touchdowns. He added 261 yards and two scores on 48 carries (5.4 avg.) and completed 11 of 25 passes (44.0 percent) for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He gained 229 yards on 31 punt returns (7.4 avg.), including a score and picked up 39 yards on two kickoff returns. He also accounted for 2,289 all-purpose yards on 222 touches, an average of 60.24 yards per game. ESPN Draft Guide projected Stuckey to be drafted in the 3rd round.
