The New Jersey Jets

WELCOME TO NEW JERSEY !!!

Our Last 20 Drafts

LOOK HOW POOR OUR LAST 20 DRAFTS HAVE BEEN. At the time, I was happy with 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996, 2000, 2001, & 2004 which is a measly 35%.

1986 Mike Haight - This guy wasn't even expected to be a first round pick but we took this loser.
1987 Roger Vick - Didn't we have Freeman McNeil, Johnny Hector, and Tony Paige? What a waste!
1988 Dave Cadigan - We just missed Tim Brown & Sterling Sharpe but then passed on Michael Irvin.
1989 Jeff Lageman - who???
1990 Blair Thomas - I can't argue that pick at the time.
1991 No first round pick...forfitted for drafting Rob Moore in Supplemental Draft. Drafted Nagle in 2nd Round. OUCH.
1992 Johnny Mitchell. I wanted Derek Brown. Both turned out to not be great.
1993 Marvin Jones. Great pick !
1994 Aaron Glenn. Another great pick !
1995 Kyle Brady & Hugh Douglas - Passed over SAPP twice !
1996 Keyshawn Johnson - Great Pick. Too bad we didn't have a GREAT QB to get him the ball once Vinny went down.
1997 James Farrior. We had the #1 for Orlando Pace and traded down. Not a good move !
1998 No first round pick due to Curtis Martin. We grabbed Dorian Boose in 2nd round. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !
1999 No first round pick due to Parcells compensation. We picked Randy Thomas in 2nd round who was a nice pick.
2000 Ellis, Abraham, Pennington, and Becht. I had issues with the Abraham at the time but one hell of a draft.
2001 Santana Moss - would have been a GREAT pick if we had a QB that could get him the ball down field.
2002 Bryan Thomas - waste of a pick when you just drafted Abraham and Ellis 2 years prior.
2003 Dewayne Robertson - he'll be OK but I would have rather had our 2 first round picks.
2004 Johnathan Vilma - One of the best draft picks of all time by the Jets.
2005 No first round pick cause we traded it for Doug Jolley instead of drafting Heath Miller. One of the WORST trades EVER.

Jets New Headquarters Is...

Jets moving training facilities to Florham Park (ONLY A 7 MINUTE DRIVE FOR ME !!!)

The New York Jets will build their new headquarters and training facility on 20 acres at the former Exxon plant in Florham Park, Mayor Frank Tinari confirmed this afternoon.

"On behalf of the citizens of our fine borough I am gratified and excited that Florham Park will become the future home of the New Jets Training Facility,'' Tinari said. "After an exhaustive search process, our community was selected by the Jets and the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. They will not be disappointed by their decision."

George Zoffinger, chief executive of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, said team officials had told him Florham Park was their first choice for a training site.

Tinari said a press conference is scheduled with Gov. Jon Corzine and other state officials as soon as tomorrow to discuss plans for the new $1 billion open-air stadium the Jets and Giants will build in the Meadowlands. A formal annoucement about the Florham Park deal is expected at that time, he said.

The state promised to acquire land for a Jets practice facility as part of a deal between the Jets, Giants and the sports authority to build the new stadium.

The Jets looked at dozens of sites and recently narrowed their choices to property in Wood-Ridge, Jersey City, Short Hills and Cedar Grove as well as the 485-acre former Exxon site Florham Park site.

Team officials have said their top priorities were getting a facility that would be close to the Meadowlands and Newark, and be near a variety of housing for their staff - from $1,500 per month rental apartments to $5 million mansions.

The state expects to pay $10 million to $20 million to acquire the site, but has justified the expense because the state will now be able to collect income taxes from all Jets players and employees, which will add a projected $15 million a year to the state’s coffers.

The Jets now train and maintain facilities at Hofstra University on Long Island.

Jay Mohr Gives Chad An Award

WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Chad Pennington

You would think that being an injury-prone quarterback and undergoing two shoulder surgeries would humble a guy. Not Chad. The Jets wisely asked Pennington to take a paycut (granted, a HUGE one) because of the uncertainty of his twice-operated on throwing shoulder. Chad would receive $1 million just in case he was never able to throw a football again. He passed. Bad move, Chad. We all thought you were smarter than that. It was you who once said, "It is important to have character, not be a character." You could have shown the organization that insured your grandchildren's wealth that you were a man of good character and EARNED your next few paychecks until proving your shoulder was structurally sound. Not too many teams are interested in a soft-throwing quarterback who has been cut on more than an Erik B and Rakim record. The Jets, for once, actually did the right thing, and you, my friend, did not. For that, Chad Pennington gets A ZERO!

Jets Sign CB To Replace Law

It's about time!!! The New York Jets finally made some real noise on the free agency market, as they signed CB Andre Dyson, 26, formerly of Tennessee and Seattle. Andre Dyson is a 6-year veteran who has played in 72 NFL games where he's intercepted 17 passes and scored 4 touchdowns. Dyson signed a 5-year contract for $11.5M, including $3M in signing and roster bonuses. He's expected to replace CB Ty Law in the starting lineup. And, what is even better is that this guy is UNDER 30 years old !!!

Draft Prayers

I agree. They keep on saying this guy is a 3 year project. I don't want a project with the 4th overall pick in the draft !

New York Jets Unaffected By End Zone Celebration Crackdown

From SpoiledSports.com
New York -- The NFL's competition committee is proposing a crackdown on rocking the baby, teeing off like Tiger Woods and anything else that might be considered taunting after scoring a touchdown. Luckily for the Jets, this new rule will not effect them since they have not crossed the goal line since 1998.

Spiking the ball in the end zone will be OK. And spinning it on the ground, or dunking it over the goalpost. Dancing in the end zone is fine, too, as long as it's not prolonged or a group effort. Almost all other celebrations will be out if the committee's recommendation to clamp down further on the frivolities is passed by the owners.

"I'm glad they let us out of the new restrictions," Justin McCareins said at his home today. "It would be a real damper to get a flag after we do that thing that you do when you get across that line thingy. What's that thing called? It's been so long. You know, the six-point whatchumacallit. It is six-points right?" Five minutes later, McCareins remembered the correct terms.

Committee chairmen Jeff Fisher, coach of the Tennessee Titans, and Rich McKay, general manger of the Atlanta Falcons, believe enforcement hasn't been strict enough recently, for teams that score.

"Except for the Jets, individual celebration was getting out of hand," Fisher said Monday at the NFL meetings. "The players' association was unanimous in wanting to get this under control. But the Jets have carte blanche. They might as well enjoy themselves, if they get one."

"If I get a touchdown I'll kill a fan," Doug Jolley admitted after his morning work out. "I'll drag a fan from the front row, grab his chin, and break his fucking neck. Sacrifices have to be made to get this team back on the good side of the Football Gods. And I'm ready to do it as long it doesn't cost us fifteen yards."

Chrebet's Replacement Is...

The Jets signed Tim Dwight, to be Chrebet's replacement as a 3rd down receiver, to a four-year contract with a $750,000 signing bonus.

Dwight, a speedy receiver who returns kickoffs and punts well, caught 19 passes for a 17.5-yard average and three touchdowns for the Patriots last season. He returned 10 kickoffs for a 25-yard average and was the Patriots' regular punt returner, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt.

In his career, Dwight has played in 101 games, catching 172 passes for 2,754 yards, a 16.0 average, and 17 TDs. He's averaged 24.3 yards on kickoffs with two TDs, and 9.7 yards on punts with three TDs.

Our Best Defensive Player Now Gone

The Jets tranded John Abraham to the Atlanta Falcons for the 29th pick in this year's draft after Atlanta traded their #15 overall pick to for Denver's first round pick (#29) and some middle round picks in this years and next years draft. Now what I don't understand is why didn't we offer some middle round picks and Abraham for the #15 overall pick if Atlanta was willing to trade it away. I'd much rather have the #15 than the #29 right?

I'm still pissed how this Abraham thing played out. This guy, when on the field, is a monster. Why does Ellis get the long term deal and Abraham kept on getting screwed? This guy is the heart of the defense when he is in there. A long term deal for Abe should have happened a long time ago and now we get a #29 for him? What will drive me bananas is if we pacakage this pick with ours to move up from #4 to #2. Now that we have the pick, we better USE it to get some youth on this team.

2 Odd Signings So Far

We signed Matt Chatham from the Pats who is a career back up who the Jets are projecting as a starter next to Vilma. Not sure why this guy goes from an back up to a starter all of a sudden. I know Patriots fans that aren't too high on this guy. Then, we go out and sign Kimo von Oelhoffen, a 35 year old DE from the Steelers. What is the advantage of signing this guy? Isn't the idea of rebuilding to get younger? I'm scratching my head over both signings so far by the regime!

Rembering Nagle !

Atlanta has been on my mind lately. There is the rumored trade going around with the Jets sending John Abraham to the Falcons for their back-up QB - Matt Schaub. Atlanta screwed up the future of the Jets Franchise drafting Brett Farve one spot ahead of us only to eventually trade him leaving us with Browing Nagle. But, man, how good was it looking after his first career game. I was so excited that we had a stud QB that I purchased an AUTHENTIC Nagle jersey for $199 and it sits in a box in the basement with all of my other garbage Jets jerseys.

What Is Gonna Happen Now ?

Daunte Culpepper to the Dolphins Sucks hurts. Drew Brees to the Saints may or may not help. This means the Saints will NOT draft a QB meaning that if everyone drafted where they were, only the Titans will draft a QB ahead of us. However, there still is the issue of the Saints trading down to a team that needs a QB and wants to move up. Ahhhhhh. I hope we DON'T give up picks to move up to the #2 slot as we need ALL the picks we have to rebuild.

Generation Jets Wins Again !

The New York Jets received a second consecutive Emmy Award for their acclaimed children’s program, Generation Jets presented by Pathmark. The award was announced last night at the 49th Annual New York Emmy Award Show.

This is the second year that Generation Jets has defeated stiff competition in the category of Children’s Programming. Last year, the Jets took home two Emmy Awards – one for Generation Jets and the other for Jets 24/7 with Herman Edwards. Generation Jets was also honored with the prestigious “Parents’ Choice Recommended” award.

I've Been Harsh On Woody

I've been a bit harsh on Woody Johnson. However, from what I've been reading, he was a major player with Robert Kraft, in brokering a deal with the other owners to extend the CBA. Maybe this guy isn't such an idiot after all.

Thursday, March 09, 2006

Jets Keep Pennington Out Of Spite:

From Sportalicious:
The New York Jets and qb Chad Pennington reached an agreement that will keep Pennington with the team by restructuring his deal.Jeff Sez: This ball club has run out of feet to shoot themselves in. I like Pennington but right now his arm couldn't get a garlic clove from the counter to the sauce pan. I'm pretty sure Rue MaClanahan can throw a better deep ball than Chad right now. Why not bring Klecko back to plug the line? Oy.

Deal Done !

NFL Owners agreed on extended the CBA meaning more money for players. The good things is that each team's cap rises by $7 Million plus. So, tomorrow night our rebuilding begins!

Today Is The Day

Today is the day the NFL votes on the new deal and hopefully the start of Free Agency. It is now time for Mike Tannenbaum to step it up. Continue to restructure, cut/waive, and get some of the mess off the team and start the rebuilding process. This is a crucial year. We have some high drafts picks so let's address some needs, make the team younger, let's go. I'm getting OLD. I'd like to see a Super Bowl victory sometime in my lifetime.

Now that Chad has restructured and will be back, do we still draft a QB in the draft or do we now address other important needs like a stud offensive lineman?

Still A Jet

Chad has at least 3 more days as a Jet!

Jets Oscar Theme

Three of the 5 movies nominated for Best Picture this year sound like it is describing the New York Jets: "Crash", "Good Night, Good Luck", & "Brokeback Mountain." I'm surprised there is not a movie nominated called, "Oye Vey."

The Rebuilding Years

A new management, a new coaching staff, now will lead to a new team. Yes, let's expect 2 more years of putting a team back together. We need a Quarterback, a Running Back, an Offensive Line, another Wide Receiver, a Secondary, and some Defensive linemen. The only decent positions we have are the Linebackers, half of the Defensive Line, a Kicker, a Punter, one Wide Receiver, and maybe a Tight End if Baker becomes that player. Should be an interesting 7 weeks leading up to the draft.

Chrebet & George Forman Get A Horse

George Teague Jr., co-owner and trainer of last Friday's Tender Loving Care Final (Meadowlands) winner Future Destiny, has sold 20 percent of his ownership interest in the talented filly to prominent standardbred owners George Foreman and Wayne Chrebet.Foreman, the former heavyweight champion, recently stepped into the harness racing ring in December, when he purchased five yearlings and sent them to Teague to train. Meanwhile, harness racing is nothing new for Chrebet, an 11-year NFL veteran wide receiver for the New York Jets, who currently has horses with trainer Kevin McDermott. Chrebet's stable name is Double Down Racing." (The picture above is NOT the horse but it's still the perfect picture for this post.)

Mawae Axed

The Jets released C Kevin Mawae, a 5-time Pro Bowler during his 8 seasons to create more salary cap space. If he makes it back from his injury, this is a HUGE loss to the offensive line. Look at last year...we couldn't even do a basic snap from Center to QB !

Coles Restructures !

I guess this is now an outdated advertisement with Laverneaus now restructuring his contract to help get the Jets under the cap!

Chad's Last Day?

If today turns out to be Chad's last day as a Jet, it's been a fun ride. I'll look back and remember his performance vs the Colts in the playoffs winning 41-0. I'll also remember last year where we lost the chance to advanced with Chad and Co. due to bad coaching and long field goal attempts. Man...that one year he was so good and even in 2004, you had a feeling that there was somthing magical gonna happen, even with his soft arm, that depressing day in Pittsburgh. Well, Chad, if you are gone, I'll miss you. I had a half of a decade with your Jersey (purchased it when we drafted you) and before that, I was going through a Jersey each year. I won't even go into all of the old Jerseys I have. If you are still on the team, let's get the rehab going and return to the way we know you can play...I think.

Wednesday, March 01, 2006

What If He Restructures?

What happens if Chad and the Jets figure out a restructured deal and we hold onto the 4th overall pick? Do they still take a QB if one is there? Or, do we draft the best available player and if Chad isn't back to form, then we'll win around 3 games this year and own the first pick in the draft next year to draft a QB if one is available. The deadline for Chad is Friday so some questions will start getting answered.
